# Triggers

> Choose the characters you type to insert snippets and prompts, so they never fire by accident in normal writing.

A trigger is the short sequence that tells SprintBrain you want a snippet or a prompt:

| For | Default | You type |
| - | - | - |
| Snippets | `::` | `::quote` |
| Prompts | `"""` | `"""followup` |

## Change a trigger

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings">
    In the dashboard, open **Settings**. The **Triggers & Prefix** card is on the **Account** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Type the new sequence">
    Change the **Snippet** or **Prompt** box. It saves when you click away, and shows **Saved**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A trigger must be:

* 1 to 5 characters, with no spaces.
* Not a single letter or number, so it can't fire while you write normal text.
* Different from the other trigger, and not the start of it. `::` and `::x` can't both be used.

The extension and your phone pick up the change on their own.

## Extension options

Three more options live in the extension itself: click the SprintBrain icon in Chrome, then the gear.

* **Suggest on selection**: offer matching snippets when you select text in a field. On by default.
* **Automatic capitalization**: start a snippet with a capital letter at the start of a sentence. On by default.
* **Default Language**: the language picked first when a snippet has several.

These belong to that browser only.
