# Notion sync

> Write snippets in a Notion database and have SprintBrain bring them into your library.

Notion sync is optional. It's for teams who write or review their wording in a Notion database.

<Note>
  Notion sync is separate from team sharing. Sharing happens inside SprintBrain and reaches teammates at once. Notion sync brings snippets in from your own Notion database. See [Sharing and permissions](/team/sharing-and-permissions).
</Note>

## Connect your database

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a Notion integration">
    In Notion, create an internal integration at [notion.so/my-integrations](https://www.notion.so/my-integrations) and copy its secret. Then open your database in Notion and give that integration access to it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Settings">
    In the SprintBrain dashboard, open **Settings**, then the **Notion sync** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste your details">
    Paste the secret into **Notion API key**, and your database's ID into **Notion database ID**. The ID is the long code in the database's link, before the `?`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save credentials**. The extension picks them up by itself: you don't enter them twice.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The status line shows **Connected**, **Not configured** or **Sync error**, and when the last sync ran.

## How your database must look

SprintBrain reads these columns. The names have to match exactly:

| Column | Notion type | Holds |
| - | - | - |
| `Nome Snippet` | Title | The snippet's name. |
| `Shortcut` | Text | The trigger, like `quote`. |
| `Body EN`, `Body IT`, `Body ES`, `Body MULTI` | Text | The body in each language. |
| `Categoria` | Select | The folder. |

A row without a name or a shortcut is skipped. A database with a single `Body` column also works, for one language.

<Warning>
  There is no French column, so French bodies don't sync with Notion.
</Warning>

## When it syncs

* The Chrome extension checks your database every five minutes in the background.
* It checks again each time you open the SprintBrain popup, and saves new and changed rows as snippets in your library.
